Description

Orthosis is composed by an anatomically shaped cushion with special provisions in the area of the trochanter for keeping an optimal pressure distribution between the seat and the body. Also special formatting for the upper part of the lower extremities and some provision for abduction of the legs may be incorporated.

Prefabricated in different sizes and formats with the need to adapt the cushion to individual specification.

Different materials are used as inner material:
* elastic foam in a variance of stiffness
* gel mass
* water
* air
* combinations of materials.

Mostly is an additional cover used to protect the cushion. The material may be:
* cloth
* neoprene
* leather or plastic
* (sheep)skin
* combinations.

User Characteristics

Indications are for example:
* need for a qualified fitting during sitting as a consequence of skin or other physiological issues (large sitting surface, pressure distribution, temperature, humidity, etc.)
* not enough stability in sitting posture
* medium asymmetry in the pelvis and upper part of the lower leg area, eventually as the consequence of spinal and thigh asymmetry or use of the orthosis

Contra Indication Text

Severe asymmetry in the pelvis area.
Need for stronger posture correction.
Severe risk on decubitus.

Intended Use Text

Supposed to be used in seats or wheelchairs to accommodate sitting and to provide sitting stability and proper fitting in order to execute activities in seated position and to participate in society.
To be applied in case the ready made version does not fit due to impairments of body functions and/or structures.
